Inspiration - Line & Mark



I though I'd write another short post about one of the artists I am looking at as part of my course. Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (1908 - 1992) was a Portugese artist, and line is a fundamental element in her paintings. Her subject matters were predominantly maze-like cityscapes and depictions of libraries, usually underpinned by complex grid patterns. She is an artist I have admired for a long time, her use of colour is also very interesting and expressive. If you want to see more of her work you can take a look at my pinterest board. I love the quality of line in the sketch above, I can just see it translated into stitch...
