Inspiration - Local Color by Mimi Robinson

As you can probably tell from my recent posts I'm very much into colour at the moment, including all the different theories, and in particular in relation to textiles. So when I saw this little gem of a book in my local bookshop I couldn't resist! The author is a watercolour artist, and she introduces the reader into the practice of drawing colour schemes from nature, from the places that surround us, exploring the effect the seasons and changing light has on colour.

Using a simple postcard sized grid of 3 by four squares, Mimi Robinson invites us to slow down and sit with our local environment/nature, absorb it and translate it into pure colour. I could easily see myself using this relaxing and meditative technique as a starting point when designing for both quilts and embroidery. This is a beautiful and easily accessible book that will inspire anyone who works creatively and is influenced by nature as a subject matter!
